Have You Ever Wondered About The Air Quality Inside Your Home?

When you are sitting in your home watching a movie and enjoying the evening, has it ever crossed your mind that you may be breathing air that is really contaminated? It is certainly not uncommon  to read or hear about air pollution in our city and all around us, so why would you not question the air quality in your own home? Believe it or not, the air inside your home can actually contain more pollutants than the air your breath outside.

Almost all of the homes in our country have at least one of the six common indoor air quality problems whether it is particle allergens, chemical pollutants, carbon dioxide, humidity, temperature, or carbon monoxide. The most prevalent of all of these is particle allergens which include dust, dander, pollen, spores, or bacteria. Many of these contaminants can cause respiratory problems, allergic reations, or even asthma attacks.

Having pets in your home as well as smoking can further add to the risk of your air quality. Crystal Clear Water Treamtent offers a free in-home air analysis. It will take very little time and you can either learn that your air quality is in a good range or that you have some contaminants. If you do, we can easily treat them for you, and if not, you will have the peace of mind knowing that you and your family are breathing clean air. You can breath easy with an air purifying system installed by Crystal Clear Water Treatment.

Do You Know The Quality Of Your Water? Ever Had It Tested?

You turn on the tap and get a glass of water. It seems fine. But have you ever wondered if your water was safe to drink? Stories are constantly being heard on the news about contaminated water sources and unknown dangers of household drinking water. Look for yourself on the web for stories about unsafe water/water quality. Whether you have a private well or your water comes from a regulated public source, your drinking water can still contain contaminants and impurities.

Have you ever considered the condition of your own water pipes? Many people don’t realize that in addition to water being contaminated at the source, water travels in some cases a long way from its source through  a series of pipes that support an area through to your own pipes before entering your home and contamination can occur along this route. As water circulates through your pipes, unwanted chemicals, minerals and other pollutants are often picked up by the water as it travels leaving your water contaminanted.  In some cases, you may notice an unpleasant odor and even a bitter taste, but not always.

Identifying these potential problems is not easy to determine on your own since many of the problems are not always visible. If you have any concerns or are even just curious about the quality of your family’s water quality, please contact Crystal Clear Water Treatment for a free in-home analysis. Yes, it is free with absolutely no obligation. If you ever looked at a glass of water poured from your tap and wondered what all was in it, we can test it and tell you. Within approximately 15 minutes, we can test your water, and provide a solution(s) to correct any existing problems you may have. We will identify contaminants in your home’s water and make a recommendation to solve any problems should we find any to ensure the quality of your drinking water.  Just think, if your water quality is good, and there is no need for any treatment, it didn’t cost you a thing and now you have the peace of mind of knowing your water quality is good. So to get it tested, please give us a call to schedule your appointment. We have two locations to serve a greater area.

What Is Required To Maintain Your Water Filtration System?

It’s a very good feeling when you drink a tall, cold glass of truly clean water, and if you have a water filtration system in your home then you know what I’m talking about. But just as you take care of your home and all of its appliances as well as your car, it is extremely important to maintain your water filtration system to ensure that you continue to drink safe, pure water.

There are two distinct benefits of having your water filtration system serviced regularly. First, it will maximize the system’s functionality. Comparing this to your car, if you continue to operate your car without having regular oil and filter changes, you will experience the car not performing the same and if you never have it serviced, you will ultimately do damage to your car. The very same model applies for your water filtration system. Second, proper maintenance will most definitely lengthen the lifespan of your of your filtration system. At Crystal Clear Water Treatment, we will help you keep your water filtration system working properly as long as you have it maintained at the recommended frequency. The frequency is determined by by a few factors including raw water quality, volume of water consumed, and the type(s) of water problems that exist. The service call includes a one of our service technicians coming to your home or business and will first visually assess the system for any obvious issues and will then proceed to check all of the mechanical parts. Your water will be tested to be sure the system is working properly. This step includes checking all mineral levels and making sure the mineral balance is correct. At this point, the technician will most likely remove saturated mineral and will replace it with fresh mineral. The final step is to place the system in backwash, reset timers, and then test the water again prior to leaving.

This entire process can take from 20 minutes up to 60+ minutes depending on the degree of difficulty in working on the system combined with what all needs to be completed during that particular service call. This is not very long at all to ensure that your water filtration system is filtering your water properly. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your water filtration system, call Crystal Clear Water Treatment. We have two offices to serve you.

Have You Ever Wondered if You Have Traces of Iron in Your Water?

Here is a science lesson for you. Did you know that iron is one of the earth’s most plentiful resources and accounts for at least five percent of the earth’s crust? This fact is why iron is often present in well water which unfortunately can frequently become troublesome when it’s mixed into our water supply.

There are a wide variety of problems that can result when iron is present in the water. From a cosmetic point of view, they can leave ugly brown and orange stains that can ruin clothes, sheets, and towels. These stains can also make sinks, bathtubs, showers, and toliets look dirty. Often, water with trace iron can have a very disagreeable metallic taste.  From a financial perspective, water with trace iron can often drastically shorten the lifespan of household appliances which leads to costly repairs and replacement.

There are two forms that can be present in your water, ferrous (soluble) and ferric (insoluble). Both types of iron can pose problems to your home. It is important to clearly identify what type of iron is present to ensure that the proper treatment system is selected for the best results. If you think you have iron in your water supply, an in-home water analysis is the best solution to determine what problems you may have.

Crystal Clear Water Treatment can conduct a free in-home water analysis to identify iron and other possible contaminants in your water. Based on our findings, we can make a recommendation for an effective solution for your home to protect you, your family, and your appliances.

Free Water Analysis

Have you ever seriously considered the quality of the water that comes out of your tap? Can you tell the difference in taste between bottled water and your tap water? Have you ever poured a glass of water and wondered what was really in it? I’m sure you have heard or read in the news the growing concerns about drinking water, and there is definitely some cause for concern. Whether you get your tap water from a public source or if you have your own private well in your backyard, there may be issues with both.

First, if you do get your water from a public source, it definitely meets the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Primary Drinking Standards. However, from the source that it is treated until it reaches your home, your drinking water can still contain contaminants and impurities outside the control of your city’s water suplier.  One of the main sources of contamination can be your own home’s pipes. As water travels through your pipes, unwanted chemicals, minerals and other pollutants can be picked up leaving your water with an unpleasant odor and a bad taste. While identifying these problems can sometimes be easy, often times the problems are not so readily apparent.

Any taste issues, visible particles, and odor should be a cause for concern. Knowing this, are you now interested in learning more about the quality of the water in your home? If so, please contact Crystal Clear Water Treatment for a FREE in-home water analysis. We can determine any problems with your drinking water and recommend the appropriate solution.

Have You Ever Wondered About The Quality Of Your Indoor Air?

Many factors exist that determine the quality of the air we breathe indoors. Knowing that we all spend the majority of time indoors, we really should be just as concerned about the air quality inside our homes as much as we are about the air we breath outside.  The biggest culprits preventing us from enjoying clean air indoors are objects that emit gases or particles, poor ventilation, and allergens that can become trapped in your home. However, we do have some recommendations that are easy to improve your indoor air quality including:

1. Use ceiling fans throughout your home.

2. Clean your air vents regularly.

3. Open doors and windows frequently.

4. Keep floors and rugs vacuumed frequently especially if there are pets.

5. Have someone inspect all piping in your home and have any old pipes properly sealed that could potentially be leaking pollutants into your home.

6. Be sure windows are open when any painting is taking place.

7. Do not store any harmful chemicals inside your home.

8. Be sure to change your air filters on your HVAC system regularly.

9. Regularly clean air vents.

These are just some suggestions that will help with improving the air quality in your home. However, you could have the biggest impact on your air quality by installing an air purifier system in your home. You can learn about them on Crystal Clear Water’s website or by calling to the office with any questions about them. A system would definitely benefit your family.

How Does Bottled Water Affect The Environment

There is no question that bottled water is big business which is great on some levels but unfortunately does come at a great cost to our environment. This mult-billion dollar industry causes the need for 1.5 million tons of plastic to be used in this industry annually. Recycling is attempted, but in reality only a very small percentage of them are actually recycled, and the vast majority remaining just add to the already crowded landfills adding to that problem.

That being said, it becomes clear that the cost of manufacturing and transporting 100 billion liters of bottled water annually throughout the world is astronomical. Additionally, certain toxins called phthalates exist that can slowly over time leak into the bottled water. With this information, drinking bottled water does not ensure without question that the water you are drinking is 100% safe.

So what is the answer? The best solution is to drink your tap water. But drinking tap water has its own set of potential issues. Tap water obviously is far less expensive than bottled water, but tap water can have lead, chlorine, and potentially even trace amounts of pesticides in it.

Well, we have now reviewed some of the issues with bottled water and with untreated tap water. So what is a viable solution? Install a water filtration system in your home and be confident that you are drinking contaminant free water while helping the environment by not buying bottled water and using all of that plastic. For mere pennies per gallon, an in-home filtration system will convert your home’s tap water to clean and healthy water by filtering out dangerous contaminants such as chlorine, lead, and herbicides.

So, to protect the environment and to protect your own personal health, drink filtered tap water from your home. This choice will eliminate buying bottled water, and you can just turn on your tap and know the water you are drinking is safe.

Unrecyclable Glass Used to Purify Water

British Scientists have discovered a way to use unrecyclable glass to clean previously polluted waterways. The waste glass acts as an ion-exchange filter to remove toxins that include lead, cadmium and other metals. This method kills two birds with one stone, so to speak, by increasing water quality while simultaneously putting to use excess amounts of waste glass.

Millions of tons of waste glass is generated across Europe each year and only a small part of that glass can be recycled. Most glass cannot be recycled because it has been colored brown or green. In fact, so much of the waste glass is unable to be recycled that a majority must be shipped to China and elsewhere to be ground up and used as hardcore filling materials for road building.

In an attempt to address this growing problem, Nichola Coleman of the University of Greenwich, London, went to work. He saw this influx in unrecyclable glass as an opportunity to do something about the water quality. Coleman developed a simple processing method for converting waste glass into the mineral tobermorite.

Tobermorite is hydrated calcium silicate. In the form he produced, the phase-pure 11-angstrom form, the mineral can be used as an ion-exchange material that can extract toxic lead and cadmium ions. The mineral is used to purify water ranging from industrial sewage, waste water streams to contaminated groundwater.

Cities with the Worst Water Quality in the U.S.

State environmental agencies have collected and analyzed water data to pinpoint the cities with the worst water quality in the United States. This data concluded that the level of chemicals in some Americans’ drinking water exceeds recommended health guidelines. Many of these cities go as far as to also exceed the limits set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The website 24/7 Wall St studied data collected from several sources over five years (ending in 2009). The data that was compiled by Environmental Working Group (EWG) and used to determine a cities water quality rating. Each cities’ water quality rank is based on three measurements:

  • The percentage of chemicals found based on the number that were tested for.
  • The total number of contaminants found.
  • The most dangerous average level of a single pollutant.

They found that the following cities ranked among the 10 worst. In descending order: Jacksonville, Florida; San Diego, California; North Las Vegas, Nevada; Omaha, Nebraska; Houston, Texas; Reno, Nevada; Riverside County, California; Las Vegas, California; Riverside, California; Pensacola, Florida.

Pensacola, Florida is located on the Florida Panhandle along the Gulf of Mexico. Analysts determined that of the 101 chemicals tested for over five years, 45 were discovered in the cities water. Of these 45 chemicals 21, including radium-228 and -228, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, alpha particles, benzine and lead were discovered in unhealthy levels. Pensacola’s water was also found to contain cyanide and chloroform. The combination of these chemicals makes Pensacolas’ water supply the worst quality in the United States.

Water Turning Your Hair Green?

Many homes in America use well water to cook, clean and shower. While there are positives to using well water, it also has its fair share of negatives. One of its major downfalls is the effect the metals and minerals commonly found in well water have on its users, especially their hair.

Most well water users believe that the chlorine and algae in their water turns their hair green but, in fact, it’s copper. Copper can stain fixtures and change the tint of hair, especially those who have lighter hair colors and those who dye their hair.

There are a few explanations for these unwanted effects. Natural copper, at some level, is found in all wells and can infiltrate your water. Also, Chlorine in the water can cause oxidation inside the copper pipes in your plumbing. The oxidized molecules are then carried with the water until they are deposited in your hair.

Shampoos and conditioners have been developed to fight the discoloration well water can cause in an attempt to lessen its effects. But in the end, the green color you find in your hair after a shower can be a warning sign to other serious problems you may have occurring in your well, such as thinned out plumbing and broken pipes. An experienced water treatment technician can test your water and determine the cause for the excess copper, which will protect against potential flooding and unwanted changes in hair color.
